Virgins Saints & Angels Jewelry is carried in over 300 stores world wide and one of our very favorites is Ambiance in downtown San Luis Obispo, they are one in a million three hundred! The only 2-story retail location in the area, Ambiance is unlike any other store on the Central Coast; proudly holding up one half of the famous “gum wall”, the store has become an iconic part of historic downtown. 2013 marks 40 years in business and every year the store just gets bigger, better, and so much more beautiful! Ambiance encompasses 3,000sf of the most incredible contemporary women’s fashion, shoes, jewelry, and accessories you’ll find anywhere between L.A. and San Francisco.
The focus is on premium brands and quality merchandise. “In a time of disposable fashion, and outsourced jobs, we strive to support local artists and designers, Made-in-USA garments, and domestic employment in the industry. We call it Retail with a conscience,” says Kannyn- store owner. The super friendly and uber-cool staff frequently host shopping events to benefit local charities such as the Food Bank Coalition and the Women’s Shelter. “Our community has been so incredible and so supportive of the store; we love working with the women who shop here, and are so honored by the trust they place in us. Every day we strive to be worthy of them- by carrying brands that we believe in.”
One of those brands I am proud to say is us! Virgins Saints & Angels has been on display at Ambiance for the last couple years after a customer walked in wearing it, and it was “love at first sight!” The feeling was and remains mutual. “We love Virgins Saints & Angels partly because it’s beautiful- but also because we fell in love with the story behind the brand. We love how it feels on, and feel confident knowing that VSA stands behind its products.” We love how Ambiance represents us, with a fun flirty and often whimsical approach to style- their social media is candy for the eyes! 1. If you could only own one album, what would it be?
The Twilight Soundtrack. You can laugh, but it transports me to a time in my life when I was obsessed with the book, and the fairytale romance between Edward and Bella.
2. what is your favorite painting?
Anything my son brings home. He’s especially interested in painting ninjas, that usually turn out looking like flowers. I love them.
3. If you could have an all expenses paid trip to anywhere in the world, where would it be?
Japan. I’ve always had an affinity with the Japanese culture. And being in the fashion industry- I’m so intrigued by the provenance of trends coming out of Japan. Also the landscape is stunning.
4. what is your favorite poem?
I’m a sucker for Edgar Allan Poe.
5. If you could bring one person back from the dead for a dinner date who would it be and why?
Gandhi, because I’d ask him how he was able to live in such a state of grace and simplistic happiness. I think he could teach me a lot about being at peace. But at the same time- I can’t help but want to pick Coco Chanel’s brain… her story and her life are so fascinating. I would love to just be around someone who inspired so many. That would be one interesting dinner date! Equal parts spiritual and superficial. It’s only human, right?

The Pax Multicross Necklace is probably the single most versatile piece in the entire Virgins Saints & Angels line. This piece appeared in 2010 as part of our Pax collection. PAX is the Latin word for peace and appears above the cross on the San Benito medallion. We took this element from our favorite and most popular symbol as inspiration for a sister-line to the San Benito Collection. The collection is particularly sentimental to me as it marked the moment when I first felt I had truly begun to master the art of CAD (computer aided design). VSA invested in a CAD-CAM machine in 2009 and I was lucky enough to be given the position of CAD Designer. After much practice, and some very embarrassing first results (my robot looking bird never made it out of the studio) I set to work on the cherished San Benito. I managed to create a perfect replica and then began experimenting with cutting out the negative space and extracting the stand out elements; the bold even cross and the PAX above it; giving the medallion a more edgy modern feel. By doming the medallion we created the San Benito bead!
This was a new look for VSA and a whole new process; we worked with an incredible factory in Mexico City specializing in this kind of intricate design, and although we appreciated the high standard of their work; in the end it just couldn’t compare to the artisan aesthetic of our hand-made look, that unmistakable VSA style! Some of the pieces stuck around for quite some time and two of them have become best sellers- the PAX Magdalena, because let’s face it- it’s a Magdalena! And today’s featured item- The Pax Multicross Bead Necklace. Using natural stone beads as featured in most of our Rosaries and a mix of Silver and Antique Bronze, the Pax Multicross has become a favorite to many.
There are several ways to wear it, as pictured below. Wear it as a long single strand or double it up for a shorter version, layer it with the Pax Magdalena or your other favorite necklaces; wrap it around your wrist as a bracelet; and you can even wrap it around your waist for a cute accent to a dress or top! (We are not promising one size fits all on this but you can always use two linked together if you need to, which would give you some great extra length to dangle!)
The possibilities are endless! Wear it around your ankle, on your upper arm, braided in your hair (make sure you have someone to help you get it out at the end of the night or you could end up in a tangled mess!) Am I missing something? We would love to hear your ideas on how to wear it!

Our latest collection, inspired by the hit ABC series Once Upon a Time, features delicate angelic pieces inspired by Snow; and edgier Gothic pieces to suit the Evil Queen. After years of creating Tiaras, the chance to design Crowns based on these characters was a dream come true! “We were thrilled to see the Evil Queen in our crown in the second season of Once Upon a Time” said Cheryl Finnegan, president of VSA. When approached by ABC with this opportunity, we found that we related equally to both the sensitive vulnerability of Snow White and the bold confidence of the Evil Queen. We cose elements such as the dragon, snowflake and spider that speak to these traits; juggle constantly in all of us. VSA used Swarovski Elements in the unique style we are famous for, to create two collections defined by color- soft pink and pure white to represent Snow and deep red and jet to represent the Queen. The 49 pieces in these two distinct collections were designed to compliment each other and work seamlessly when layered together.
